About Us

At Excel Bridge we take great pride in being a family run business, where the emphasis is on friendly, sociable bridge played in a cheerful atmosphere. Many of our guests have since become friends and we are always pleased to welcome regulars and newcomers alike.

Andrew & Cathy Smith with The Daily Telegraph cup they recently won. Your Hosts. Andrew and Cathy Smith have recently taken over running the company from Andrew’s father Ralph and his wife Lesley, though Ralph and Lesley remain very much a part of the team. Andrew and Cathy are both Grand Masters and have always shared a passion for bridge together. They have been successfully hosting bridge weekends as part of the Excel Bridge team for the last ten years.

Ralph & Lesley Smith The business was founded by Andrew’s parents nearly twenty years ago and Ralph has passed on all his bridge skills and enthusiasm to his son. Ralph and Andrew are both highly regarded teachers of bridge. Their entertaining, instructional seminars are always well received and both are very experienced directors so you can be assured that your bridge will be in good hands.

All our breaks are personally hosted by either Andrew & Cathy or Ralph & Lesley. This family team ensures that one thing is certain: you will enjoy the usual well-organised event in a pleasant, cheerful atmosphere.

Our Hotels are all carefully chosen for their high standards of comfort and service, pleasant surroundings and good food. Almost all are 4 star hotels, but the odd good 3 star “slips in” if it has the right atmosphere and a particularly good situation. Naturally, all bedrooms have en-suite bathroom, colour television, telephone and tea & coffee making facilities - we are sure that we offer the very best of luxury bridge breaks, weekends and holidays with excellent accommodation in top class hotels.
